Founded in Tokyo in 1977 by Shinji Takahashi, 45R (originally 45rpm) is a Japanese artisanal label rooted in the philosophy of Monozukuri—a deep spiritual commitment to fine clothes-making. Guided by head designer Yasumi Inoue, the brand operates with a "materials first" approach, developing every garment from the yarn up. 45R is celebrated for its obsessive dedication to traditional Japanese craft, most notably its signature Ai indigo. Using natural plant dyes, master craftsmen hand-dip raw cotton yarns into living fermentation vats up to 40 times, creating a rich, fading patina known as "Japan Blue."
