Founded in Rome in 2006 by self-taught designer Simone Cecchetto, A Diciannoveventitre (also known as A1923) emerged from the avant-garde legacy of the Carpe Diem collective. The brand is defined by its deep exploration of raw materiality and artisanal construction, guided by a philosophy that embraces natural imperfections, akin to the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. Cecchetto specializes in sculptural footwear and leather goods, using unconventional materials like horse culatta and kangaroo leather that are often treated with experimental tanning and dyeing techniques. Each piece is handmade in Italy, reflecting a commitment to time-honored craftsmanship reinterpreted through a modern, uncompromising lens. The resulting boots, derbies, and jackets feel both timeless and brutalist, with distressed finishes and unique textures that communicate the value of time. Rejecting mass production, the label produces in limited runs, stamping its boxes with the instruction: “Do not handle with care.”
