Founded in Los Angeles in 2018 by Chris Mart, a former streetwear creative, Akila is an independent eyewear brand built on an “anti-industry” approach. The brand produces handmade, limited-run sunglasses and optical frames using sustainable materials like plant-based cellulose acetate and recycled nylon lenses. Each frame undergoes a 100-step, 90-day production process, reflecting a commitment to craftsmanship and durability. Akila’s designs merge timeless silhouettes with a contemporary, street-inflected style, offering a wide range of unisex shapes and colors.
