Founded in 1991 by Japanese textile designers Junko Jinushi and Kyoko Kato, Antipast began as a creative collaboration for magazines before evolving into a full-fledged fashion brand. The name is a dual reference: to the Italian appetizer that stimulates the appetite for what’s to come, and to an “anti-past” philosophy that favors forward-thinking design. The brand first gained fame for its collection of socks, which feature a rich variety of yarns and imaginative patterns, and has since expanded to include a full clothing line. Each piece, from jacquard knits to embroidered blouses, is designed to tell a story through its unique textures and motifs.
