Founded in Paris in 1996 by Ivan Pericoli and Benoît Astier de Villatte, who met at the École des Beaux-Arts, the brand revives the tradition of 18th-century Parisian ceramic manufacturing. Astier de Villatte is defined by its signature black terracotta clay, finished with a milky-white glaze that highlights the unique imperfections of each handmade piece. The founders, inspired by flea market discoveries and neglected objects, built their brand on a philosophy of craft and quiet distinction rather than mass marketing. Each ceramic is made from start to finish by a single artisan—many of whom are part of a community of Tibetan makers who have worked with the company for years—and is marked with their initials.
