Founded in 2015 by Steven Barter, Barriers Worldwide is a New York-based streetwear label that functions as an educational platform as much as a fashion brand. Driven by a mission to "teach the youth," the brand uses apparel to highlight overlooked figures, movements, and moments in Black history and pan-African culture. Rather than following seasonal trends, Barriers releases collections centered around specific historical themes or icons—ranging from the Black Panther Party to jazz legends like Sun Ra and Miles Davis—often accompanied by extensive research and storytelling.
