Founded as a men's tailor shop by Remo Basile in 1951, the Basile brand became a key player in the Italian fashion revolution of the 1970s. Under the direction of Remo's son, Gianfranco, the house transformed from a traditional sartoria into one of Italy's first companies to industrially produce high-end prêt-à-porter for both men and women. Basile was instrumental in establishing Milan's reputation as a global fashion capital, celebrated for its sharp tailoring, attention to quality fabrics, and a sober, coherent style. At its peak in the 1980s, the brand was a cornerstone of "Made in Italy" excellence, with its collections sold in prestigious boutiques worldwide, including its own on Milan's Via Montenapoleone.
