Bird on a Rock is one of the most revered high jewelry designs of the 20th century, originally conceived in 1965 by visionary French designer Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. Inspired by a yellow cockatoo Schlumberger encountered during his travels, the original brooch featured a diamond-encrusted bird perched atop a cabochon lapis lazuli. Today, the motif has evolved into a comprehensive high and fine jewelry collection under the direction of Nathalie Verdeille, Tiffany’s Chief Artistic Officer of Jewelry and High Jewelry.
