Emerging from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh launched Botter in 2017, introducing a vibrant and thoughtful new voice to the fashion landscape. Drawing from their Caribbean roots—Botter from Curaçao and Herrebrugh from the Dominican Republic—the duo has crafted a distinct aesthetic they aptly term "Caribbean Couture." This approach marries the fluid, colorful energy of the Caribbean with the precise tailoring traditions of Belgium and the Netherlands. At its core, Botter is a celebration of cultural hybridity, expressed through elegantly tailored yet playful garments. The brand is also deeply committed to ocean conservation, a value that is intricately woven into its collections. This is evident in their use of innovative and sustainable materials, such as recycled ocean plastics sourced through a partnership with Parley for the Oceans, as well as bio-textiles derived from algae and kelp. Botter's designs often feature aquatic motifs, deconstructed silhouettes, and unexpected details that challenge conventional menswear. Their work gained significant early acclaim, earning them the Grand Prix at the Hyères Festival and a finalist position for the LVMH Prize in 2018. This success led to their appointment as creative directors of the French house Nina Ricci from 2019 to 2022, a tenure that further honed their creative vision. Today, Botter continues to make waves with its thought-provoking collections that are both a personal diary and a commentary on the world, resonating with a generation that values authenticity, creativity, and environmental responsibility. The brand's commitment extends beyond the runway with the establishment of the Botter Coral Nursery in Curaçao, which is dedicated to restoring coral reefs.
