Founded in 1973 as a provocative offshoot of Italy's Genny group, Byblos first gained acclaim under the early creative direction of a young Gianni Versace. The brand became a symbol of 80s and 90s Italian fashion, known for its vibrant, pop-infused, and irreverent style that captured a generation's desire for freedom. After a period of shifting designers, including the influential duo Keith Varty and Alan Cleaver, the brand was acquired by Swinger International in 2002.
