Founded in 1994 in Perugia, Italy, by Maurizio Altieri, Carpe Diem (often stylized as C-Diem) is widely considered the grandfather of the dark avant-garde and artisanal fashion movements. Altieri established the label with a philosophy centered on transforming raw, high-quality materials into timeless, utilitarian garments. The brand is renowned for its meticulous, labor-intensive craftsmanship, particularly its treatment of heavy leathers like horsehide, which were often washed, crushed, or buried in soil to achieve a deliberately distressed, lived-in patina.
