Founded in 2019 by Ana and Borja Cerrato, Cayumas is a Madrid-based footwear brand dedicated to preserving the heritage of authentic Venetian *friulane* slippers. Born from a family trip to Italy where the founders fell in love with the traditional gondolier footwear, the brand bridges Spanish design sensibility with rigorous Italian craftsmanship. Unlike many modern adaptations that use glue or synthetic shortcuts, Cayumas adheres strictly to historical production methods in the Friuli region: each pair is hand-stitched without adhesive, using organic cotton velvets and soles cut from recycled bicycle tires—a nod to the resourcefulness of the post-war era.
