Founded in 2009 on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia, by surfers and artists Sam Coombes and Jim Mitchell, The Critical Slide Society (TCSS) emerged as a creative counterpoint to mainstream competitive surf culture. The brand was born from a collective of artists, photographers, filmmakers, and surfers who wanted to celebrate the simple joy and creative spirit of a surfing life. This approach is visible in its apparel and accessories, which feature playful motifs, vintage-inspired prints, and bold graphics across its award-winning boardshorts, relaxed t-shirts, and linen shirts.
