Founded in Los Angeles in 1989 by Carl Jones and TJ Walker, Cross Colours is credited as one of the first streetwear brands to achieve mainstream success. Launched with the motto “Clothing Without Prejudice,” the label emerged during the golden age of hip-hop to serve a Black youth market that was largely ignored by the fashion industry. Its signature aesthetic featured vibrant, Afrocentric color palettes—often using green, yellow, and red—and oversized silhouettes, particularly baggy jeans and graphic tees. The brand’s designs frequently carried positive social messages, such as “Educate 2 Elevate” and “Stop D Violence.”
