Founded in 1986 by UK-trained skin therapist Jane Wurwand, Dermalogica emerged from a desire to provide skincare professionals with superior products and education. Wurwand first established the International Dermal Institute (IDI) in Los Angeles in 1983 to offer advanced training, and the product line was born when she couldn't find formulas that met her standards for skin health. The brand’s philosophy prioritizes science-backed, results-driven skincare over superficial beauty, a focus reflected in its minimalist, clinical packaging. From its inception, Dermalogica has formulated products without common irritants like artificial colors, fragrances, mineral oil, and lanolin.
