Founded in Jakarta in 2015 by friends Theo Kusuma and Mol Edrin, Deva States emerged from a shared passion for graphic t-shirts. The name derives from Sanskrit, meaning “the shining one,” and reflects the brand's core design approach, which finds excellence in imperfection, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi. Deva States is recognized for its surreal, scrapbook-style graphics that pull from a diverse range of cultural references, including punk rock, horror films, and dystopian science fiction, creating a distinctively retro-futuristic feel.
