Founded in 1968 by textile connoisseur Gerolamo “Gimmo” Etro, the Milanese house began as a purveyor of fine fabrics to the fashion industry. Inspired by his travels and a personal collection of antique shawls, Etro introduced its signature Paisley motif in 1981, a design that has since become synonymous with the brand's identity. What started as a textile venture soon evolved into a comprehensive lifestyle brand, launching leather goods in 1984, a home collection in 1985, and eventually ready-to-wear in the 1990s.
