Founded in the Bronx in 1910, Everlast was started by 17-year-old Jacob Golomb, the son of a tailor. Initially, the company produced durable swimwear that Golomb guaranteed to last a full year, hence the name "Everlast". A pivotal shift occurred in 1917 when a young boxer named Jack Dempsey asked Golomb to create protective headgear that could withstand more than 15 rounds of intensive training. This request marked Everlast's entry into the world of boxing, and its reputation was cemented when Dempsey won the heavyweight championship in 1919 wearing Everlast gloves. The brand became synonymous with boxing, outfitting legendary champions like Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and Sugar Ray Robinson. It was also responsible for key innovations, such as introducing elastic waistbands to boxing trunks, replacing the leather-belted shorts of the era.
