Founded in Osaka, Japan, in 1991 by tailor and denim enthusiast Hidehiko Yamane, Evisu rose from a small-scale operation to a global streetwear icon. Initially, Yamane produced only about 14 pairs of jeans a day, using vintage American shuttle looms and meticulously hand-painting his signature seagull logo on each pair. This dedication to traditional, labor-intensive craftsmanship spurred a worldwide revival of interest in vintage and selvedge denim. Evisu quickly became a cult favorite in Japan before gaining international acclaim.
