Fil Noir is a piece of Italian clothing culture, with a history that began in 1899 in Certaldo, Tuscany. Founded by brothers Luca and Lorenzo Manzini, the brand first gained acclaim for its finely tailored men's shirts. An early setback, when an earthquake destroyed local yarn factories, led to the brand's signature: the use of the only remaining black thread (“fil noir”), which became a mark of distinction for Parisian businessmen. The original company closed with the onset of World War I.
