Founded in 1993 in Zurich by graphic designer brothers Markus and Daniel Freitag, the eponymous brand pioneered the concept of upcycled accessories. Inspired by the heavy traffic outside their apartment, the founders sought a robust, water-repellent messenger bag, leading them to repurpose discarded truck tarpaulins, bicycle inner tubes, and car seat belts. This utilitarian approach established Freitag’s signature aesthetic: colorful, weather-beaten, and entirely unique pieces that blend industrial durability with urban functionality.
