Founded in 1852 by Italian chocolatier Domenico Ghirardelli in San Francisco, California, Ghirardelli is one of the oldest continuously operating chocolate makers in the United States. The brand’s origins trace back to the California Gold Rush, where it initially supplied confections to miners before establishing its iconic waterfront factory, now known as Ghirardelli Square. Today, as a subsidiary of the Swiss chocolatier Lindt & Sprüngli, the brand maintains its legacy of premium confectionery while adhering to a "bean-to-bar" production philosophy.
