Founded in 1923, Grenfell is a British luxury brand born from the need for durable, weather-proof clothing for explorer and medical missionary Sir Wilfred Grenfell. The brand's cornerstone is the proprietary Grenfell Cloth, a densely woven cotton gabardine that is windproof, water-resistant, and breathable. This innovative fabric was developed by mill owner Walter Haythornthwaite in Burnley and quickly became the material of choice for adventurers, aviators, and motorsports pioneers, including Sir Malcolm Campbell and Amelia Earhart. Garments were worn on expeditions to Mount Everest and by members of the British military during WWII.
