Founded in New York City in 1977 by designer Gale Epstein and her friend Lida Orzeck, Hanky Panky began with a handmade lingerie set crafted from embroidered handkerchiefs. The brand achieved cult status with the 1986 launch of its Original Rise Thong, a revolutionary one-size-fits-most style made from a proprietary stretch lace that promised to be “The World’s Most Comfortable Thong®.” The design’s success eliminated visible panty lines and established Hanky Panky as a lingerie drawer staple for generations of women.
