Founded in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1950 by aeronautical engineer Howard Head, HEAD began with a revolutionary concept: applying aircraft construction principles to sporting goods. Head, frustrated with clumsy wooden skis, developed the first successful metal-wood composite ski, which quickly dominated the market and established the brand’s identity in engineering-led innovation. This pioneering spirit continued into tennis, where Head introduced the first oversized aluminum racket, an idea that permanently changed the sport and was famously used by Arthur Ashe in his 1975 Wimbledon victory.
