Founded in 1826 in the small village of Herend, Hungary, the Herend Porcelain Manufactory began as an earthenware pottery workshop before visionary owner Mór Fischer transformed it into a premier producer of artistic porcelain in 1839. Fischer carved out a unique niche by creating replacement pieces for Europe’s royal families, eventually designing original patterns that captured the attention of the Habsburg dynasty and aristocrats across the continent. The brand’s defining moment arrived at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, where Queen Victoria purchased a vibrant, butterfly-and-peony-strewn set that was subsequently named in her honor.
