The story began when Palm Beach socialite Lilly Pulitzer, needing to hide citrus stains while working at her husband’s juice stand, commissioned a simple shift dress in a bright, colorful print. The dress quickly became a uniform for the fashionable set, and after a former schoolmate, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, was photographed wearing a “Lilly,” the brand’s popularity soared. At its core, the brand is defined by its hand-painted, kaleidoscopic prints filled with florals and tropical motifs, applied to its signature shift dresses, tunics, and a full range of women's apparel.
