First introduced at Maison Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2020 Artisanal show, the collaboration with Reebok merges the Parisian fashion house’s conceptual design with the sportswear brand’s iconic footwear. The partnership is built on a philosophy of synergy, deconstructing and reinterpreting classic Reebok models like the Classic Leather, Club C, and Instapump Fury through a high-fashion lens. The most definitive feature of the collection is the application of Maison Margiela’s signature 1988 Tabi split-toe to Reebok’s athletic silhouettes, creating a hybrid design that bridges streetwear and avant-garde fashion.\n\nUnder creative director John Galliano, the collaboration employs signature Margiela techniques such as ‘décortiqué,’ where materials are cut away to reveal the shoe’s core structure, and ‘trompe l'oeil,’ which uses 2D printing to create an optical illusion of 3D details. Another notable technique is the hand-painted ‘Bianchetto’ finish, designed to chip and evolve with wear. The collection is presented as a dialogue between fashion and function, heritage and innovation, targeting a consumer who appreciates artisanal craftsmanship and design that challenges convention. The genderless footwear has become a recurring, highly anticipated release for both brands.
