Founded in 1984 by its namesake designer, Marc Jacobs is a New York-based brand celebrated for its eclectic and unpredictable approach to fashion. After gaining notoriety for his infamous 1992 “grunge” collection for Perry Ellis, Jacobs solidified his own label's identity by blending high-fashion irreverence with streetwear sensibilities. For 16 years, from 1997 to 2013, Jacobs also served as the creative director for Louis Vuitton, where he introduced the house’s first ready-to-wear line and initiated iconic artist collaborations. His own brand captured a younger audience with the accessible Marc by Marc Jacobs diffusion line, which was later discontinued and absorbed into the main collection.
