Maria Tash transformed the piercing industry from a punk-adjacent practice into a luxury art form. A native New Yorker influenced by the city's '80s goth and punk scenes, founder Maria Tash opened her first studio in the East Village in 1993 with the vision of pairing delicate, fine jewelry with the art of body piercing. Dissatisfied with the industrial styles prevalent at the time, she began designing her own pieces in 14k and 18k gold, using innovative techniques like threaded backings and "invisible set" diamonds to create a refined, close-to-the-skin look.
