Founded in 1981 by Mary Macleod in Toronto, Canada, Mary Macleod's Shortbread began as the country's first dedicated shortbread shop. A breast cancer survivor, Macleod opened the bakery in her mid-40s to support her family, relying on recipes passed down from her Scottish mother and French grandmother. Today, the women-owned, family-operated business is led by her daughter-in-law, Sharon, who transitioned the brand from a local storefront to a broader wholesale and e-commerce operation while maintaining its artisanal roots.
