Founded in 1881 when James McGeorge took over Robert Scott and Sons, McGeorge of Dumfries grew to become one of Scotland’s preeminent knitwear specialists. Originally gaining fame for its gloves in colonial markets, the brand eventually became synonymous with exceptional Scottish knitwear, operating out of its Dumfries mills until the late 20th century. Though the original factory closed in 1992 and the brand is no longer active in its original form, it remains highly respected among menswear enthusiasts and vintage collectors.
