Launched in 2005 by Lee Alexander McQueen, McQ was the contemporary diffusion line of the iconic British fashion house. It was conceived to capture a younger, urban audience by distilling the mainline’s avant-garde and darkly romantic vision into more accessible, streetwear-inflected collections. Rooted in the renegade spirit of British youth subcultures, McQ offered relaxed and raw interpretations of the house's codes, with staples including graphic t-shirts, denim, and bold footwear. Initially produced under license, the brand was brought in-house in 2010 under the creative leadership of Sarah Burton, who had been appointed creative director of Alexander McQueen. This move signaled a new era for McQ, which held its first London Fashion Week show in 2012 and opened a flagship store on Dover Street.
