Merz b. Schwanen is a German heritage brand specializing in high-quality basics, revived in 2011 by fashion designers Gitta and Peter Plotnicki. The original company, founded by Balthasar Merz in 1911 in the Swabian Alps, ceased production in 2008. A decade later, the Plotnickis discovered an original henley at a Berlin flea market, which inspired them to resurrect the brand and its traditional manufacturing methods. The core of the brand's identity lies in its use of original, century-old loopwheel knitting machines. This slow, meticulous process creates seamless, tubular fabrics that are exceptionally soft, durable, and hold their shape, forming the basis of their signature t-shirts, henleys, and sweatshirts.
