Founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1881, Movado built its name on a heritage of Swiss craftsmanship and design innovation. The brand’s identity was forever shaped in 1947 when artist Nathan George Horwitt, influenced by the Bauhaus movement, designed the iconic Museum Dial. This minimalist face, featuring a solitary dot at 12 o’clock to symbolize the sun at high noon, became a hallmark of modernism and was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in 1960. The name Movado, meaning “always in motion” in Esperanto, reflects its forward-thinking approach.
