Founded by artist and restaurateur Michael Chow in London in 1968, MR CHOW redefined Chinese dining in the West by presenting authentic Beijing cuisine in a theatrical, fine-dining context. Born to a Peking Opera grandmaster, Chow envisioned his restaurants as a stage, blending food, art, and design to bridge Eastern and Western cultures. The first location in Knightsbridge, with its Italian waiters and modern, art-filled interior featuring works by David Hockney and Peter Blake, immediately attracted a glamorous clientele of artists, celebrities, and fashion insiders. This formula was replicated in Beverly Hills (1974), New York (1979), and other major cities, solidifying MR CHOW as a cultural institution.
