Founded in 1999 in the back of a Reykjavik skate shop by Heida Birgisdottir, Nikita Clothing emerged from a clear necessity: the lack of functional, well-fitting snowboard and skate apparel designed specifically for women. Birgisdottir, an active participant in Iceland's board sports scene, began hand-making streetwear pieces that quickly gained a cult following among female riders tired of settling for oversized men's gear or overly feminized pink alternatives.
