Launched in 2012 under the Comme des Garçons umbrella, Noir Kei Ninomiya is the vision of its founder, a former patternmaker for Rei Kawakubo. The brand is built on a philosophy of exploring new possibilities in form and construction, using black as a primary canvas to emphasize technique over color. Ninomiya’s collections are celebrated for their radical and intricate craftsmanship, frequently eschewing traditional sewing in favor of assembling garments by linking, studding, or weaving small, modular pieces together. The result is a range of sculptural, three-dimensional silhouettes that are both aggressive and delicately romantic.
