Founded in 1990 by Roland Schwertner in the historic watchmaking town of Glashütte, Nomos revived German horology just after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The brand is defined by its clean, functional design, heavily influenced by the Bauhaus and Deutscher Werkbund movements, of which it is a member. This approach results in timepieces with understated, minimalist dials and a focus on legibility, exemplified by signature models like the Tangente and Orion. Initially using modified Swiss movements, the company achieved a significant milestone in 2005 by producing its first in-house caliber, establishing itself as a true manufactory.
