Palladium was founded in Lyon, France, in 1920 to produce vulcanized rubber tires for the aviation industry. After World War II, the company pivoted its expertise in canvas and rubber to footwear, creating its first boot, the Pampa, in 1947. Designed for the extreme conditions faced by the French Foreign Legion, the Pampa was lightweight, durable, and fast-drying, establishing a legacy of utilitarian performance. This combination of durability and comfort saw the boots adopted by explorers and adventurers, including volcanologist Haroun Tazieff. By the latter half of the 20th century, Palladium's rugged, military aesthetic resonated with various counter-cultures, becoming a staple in the punk, grunge, and rave scenes of the 1990s.
