Philips Norelco is the North American grooming and personal care division of the Dutch technology conglomerate Philips. The brand’s origins trace back to 1939, when Philips engineer Alexandre Horowitz invented the Philishave, the world’s first electric shaver to utilize a rotary cutting system rather than reciprocating blades. Due to trademark conflicts with Philco in the United States, Philips adopted the Norelco acronym (North American Philips Electrical Company) in 1943, a name that gained such immense brand equity that it remains in use today.
