Founded in 1960 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, by pottery designer Susan Williams-Ellis and her husband Euan Cooper-Willis, Portmeirion is a cornerstone of British ceramic heritage. Williams-Ellis, the daughter of the architect who created the Italian-style Portmeirion Village in North Wales, originally began designing ceramic gifts for the village shop before acquiring local potteries to manufacture her own shapes and surface patterns.
