Founded by former fashion buyer Evren Doğançay, Punicana is a Turkish fashion brand built on the desire to incorporate heritage textiles into modern, everyday wear. The name is derived from “Punica,” the Latin word for pomegranate, a symbol of abundance and fortune in Turkish culture. Doğançay’s designs are rooted in her discovery of two traditional, handmade fabrics at Istanbul's Grand Bazaar: Ikat, a meticulously hand-dyed and woven cotton or silk from Uzbekistan, and Kutnu, a 16th-century “palace fabric” once used for Ottoman sultans’ caftans, woven in Gaziantep.
