Swiss watchmaker Rado has built its reputation on a forward-thinking approach to design and an innovative use of materials. Founded in Lengnau, Switzerland, in 1917 by the Schlup brothers as a movement maker, the company launched its first watch collection under the Rado name in 1957. The brand quickly distinguished itself from traditional watchmakers by focusing on durability and futuristic aesthetics. In 1962, Rado introduced the DiaStar 1, considered the world’s first scratch-proof watch, made from hardmetal and sapphire crystal.
