Founded in 1992 in Bedfordshire, England, by Felicity Irons—a self-taught weaver who revived the Anglo-Saxon tradition of freshwater rush cutting—Rush Matters is a traditional craft studio dedicated to the ancient art of bulrush weaving. The brand harvests English bulrush directly from the River Ouse and River Nene, drying the material in a 15th-century barn before hand-plaiting, coiling, and stitching it into bespoke pieces. Rush Matters is best known for its signature medieval-style floor matting, which features a distinctive nine-end flat weave that brings natural texture, varied earthy tones, and a subtle hay-like scent to interior spaces.
