Founded in 1960 by Shintaro Tsuji, Sanrio is a Japanese company built on the philosophy of fostering social communication through small, thoughtful gifts. Originally the Yamanashi Silk Company, it officially became Sanrio in 1973 and has since grown into a global emblem of “kawaii” (cute) culture. The brand is renowned for its vast universe of over 450 characters, led by the internationally beloved Hello Kitty, who was introduced in 1974. Other cherished characters include My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, and the lethargic egg, Gudetama.
