Launched in 2008 by the historic Japanese footwear manufacturer MoonStar, Shoes Like Pottery is rooted in the city of Kurume, a traditional hub for the rubber industry and shoemaking. The brand takes its name from its defining manufacturing technique: the ka-ryu or vulcanization process. Each pair of sneakers is hand-sewn by skilled artisans before being fired in a kiln, much like pottery. This rare process causes the sulfur mixed into the raw rubber to chemically react, resulting in a sole that is exceptionally soft, flexible, and durable.
