Founded in 2017 in Norway by Tor Marius Engen, Frode Grønvold, and Nina Granerød—a Central Saint Martins-educated designer—Sleepers was born out of a desire to create a sustainable alternative to the world’s best-selling footwear. Inspired by a surf trip to Sri Lanka and a shared connection to the ocean, the founders sought to combat the plastic pollution flooding their favorite beaches.
