Founded in 2015 by Canadian-Ghanaian designer Spencer Badu, the eponymous label is a post-gender, ready-to-wear brand based in Toronto. Badu, who is self-taught in patternmaking, launched the brand from a desire to challenge the rigid norms of gendered clothing, creating what he calls a modern “youniform.” Drawing inspiration from the functionalism of the Bauhaus movement, his West African heritage, and '90s hip-hop culture, the brand is known for its experimental yet practical designs. The collections feature hybrid silhouettes, asymmetrical cuts, and functional details like zippered trousers and convertible coats, primarily in a black-and-white palette now expanding with bold color.
