Launched in 2008, Stone Island Shadow Project is a collaborative partnership between Stone Island creative director Carlo Rivetti and designers Errolson Hugh and Michaela Sachenbacher of ACRONYM®. Conceived as a platform for exploration, the line functions as the main brand’s experimental R&D division, fusing Stone Island’s vast archival and technical resources with ACRONYM®’s performance-based, futuristic design approach. The collection is defined by its modular systems, allowing pieces to be layered and adapted, and its use of forward-thinking, often proprietary, fabrics like iridescent Scarabeo composites and ultra-lightweight hollow-spun polyesters.\n\nShadow Project operates with a distinct identity, often signaled by its fully black, monochromatic compass badge, which allows it to blend into each garment. This sub-brand pushes the boundaries of urban apparel, creating multifunctional menswear for a modern, urban lifestyle with a focus on ergonomic construction and advanced garment-dyeing processes. While originally intended to remain in the “shadow” of the main collection, the project has developed a cult following among techwear enthusiasts for its intelligent synthesis of form and function, standing as a benchmark for innovation in the industry.
